Fall Clean-up Crew
I want to thank the volunteers who were here bright and early last Saturday to help with our annual fall clean-up. The place looks great! We'll see you (and others?) in the spring.

Highly Capable Student Program
Our district offers two programs for students who perform at very high levels on achievement and aptitude tests. To enter the SPECTRUM SC or ACCELERATED PROGRESS PROGRAM (APP) next fall, a student must be nominated now. Nomination forms for students in kindergarten through seventh grade are available at school offices and Student Assignment Service Centers (SASC's). Nominations must be returned to a school office or the office of Highly Capable Student Programs by Wednesday, November 5, 1997.

Reading Incentive Program
Each month our school tries to emphasize the importance of reading in a different way. In the month of October excitement will build toward Book Character Day. You will get details about this day later, but briefly, on October 31st the children have a chance to dress up as a character from their favorite book.
There is also a parade on Saturday, October 18th in which all West Seattle schools participate. Children will have a chance to wear their book character costumes then so you might want to start planning now. Details will be shared with the children during their library classes.

NetDay - Help Wanted
NetDay is a national effort to encourage volunteers and businesses to assist K-12 schools across our country with internet wiring projects. This year NetDay falls on Saturday, October 25th. The Bon Marche' and Microsoft have been helping our school with Phase 1 of this project and we are asking for your help on October 25th. We need people to work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. that day. You do not need to be an electrician as we will have experts here to tell us what to do. If you can help out for a few hours that day please let me know by returning the form below and I will call you with details. Thank you.
