Parent Bulletin

December 13, 2001

Dear Parents/Guardians,

According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, approximately 25,000 children sustain pedestrian related injuries each year.  Hospitalization is required in 25 – 50% of these incidents.

At home and at school, we can work together to reduce the risk of harm to our students.  Let us start by modeling and teaching safe pedestrian practices such as:

·                 walking (not running) to cross streets

·                 looking left, right and left again before crossing and continue looking while crossing

·                 following the instructions of the crossing guards or Safety Patrol students on duty during the hours before, during and after school.  Do not summon children to cross the street in the middle of the block to meet you.

The Arbor Heights Staff wants academic achievement for all students.  To accomplish this, students must be safe first. We can all be a part of ensuring that academic achievement and safety take place at all times.

The Southwest Branch of the Seattle Public Library is located at 9010 35th Avenue S.W.  Jan Hogan is the director of Children’s Services.  There are interesting activities planned for both adults and children.  Take advantage of all the library has to offer. Their hours are:

Monday – Thursday     10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday                    11:30 a.m.  – 6:00 p.m.

Saturday                10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sincerely,

Carol A. Coram, Ed.D

Principal
