Parent Bulletin

November 30, 2000

Dear Parents,

There are a number of activities scheduled between now and December 22nd. Please check your calendars to be aware of field trips, etc. that various classrooms may be participating in.

I want to thank Tracy Thompson, our Family Support Worker along with Mrs. Long’s and Mr. Femiano’s classrooms for coordinating and collecting a huge amount of items during their food drive. I also want to thank all those students who took the time and energy to help others during this season of giving.

The Bon Marche’ has taken an active role in supporting Arbor Heights again this year. This week Kevin Cavanaugh from the Bon Marche’ presented University Bookstore gift certificates to all our certificated staff members to help enhance individual education programs. In addition, the Bon is continuing its Young Achievers Program. On December 5th, the following students will be recognized at a luncheon at the downtown Bon Marche’: Ray, Colleen, Evan, Alyssa, Alika, Tyler, Sean and Reese.

Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,

Barry S. Dorsey

Principal

Food Drive

As stated above Mrs. Long, Mr. Femiano and their respective classrooms, with our Family Support Worker, Tracy Thompson, organized a Food Drive this month. As of Tuesday morning Arbor Heights students had collected over 1500 items to donate to the White Center Food Bank! Tomorrow, Friday, December 1st will be the last day to bring in nonperishable food items. The classroom that brought the most items will be announced and presented with their pizza party at a later date. Congratulations to everyone for your thoughtfulness towards your community during this season of giving.

Free and Reduced Lunch

Last week we sent out a notice regarding the Free and Reduced Lunch Program the Seattle School offers. We are unable to get enough forms to send home to everyone, so we ask that you please come in and see Ms. Veda in the kitchen to get a form if you think you may be eligible. The program is available for you; please take advantage of this opportunity.

Absent Students

If your child will be missing school, please be sure to call the office at 933-5350. Our voice mail is available after regular school hours, feel free to leave a message. The office will inform the teacher of the absence. If you are going to send a note, please make a copy for the office and include the student’s first and last name. With over 425 students, it is difficult to decipher which Joshua or Jennifer is going to be out, and there are many students with different last names than their parent/guardian.

THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU to the Family Fun Night "BINGO" crew – special thanks to Mari Davis, Maria Hennessey, Peter Moy, Laurie Matalone, Michele Shewbert, Mike and Karen Wydick, Kris Lenning and Tish Hesse (and all the bake sale helpers). The evening was a great success!

COOKIE DOUGH FUND RAISER – VERY IMPORTANT. The Cookie Dough will be delivered December 6th between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. The Cookie Dough is a perishable item so you will need to make arrangements to pick up your child’s order on DECEMBER 6th by 11:00 a.m. If you have any questions, please call Sandy Watkins (937-9560) or Anna Phillips (768-1331).

Winter Program

The Winter Program is coming soon. Please mark your calendar for December 19th.

The daytime performance will be at 1:30 for those unable to attend the evening performance.

Primary Performance

Kindergarten through Second Grade

6:30 – 7:15 p.m.

Intermediate Performance

Third Grade through Fifth Grade

7:30 – 8:15 p.m.

We will clear the auditorium after the first performance so parents of students performing in the second performance will have a place to sit. Daycare will not be available, if you have students performing in both sessions, the child not performing must stay with you. We feel it is equally important to teach children to be good performers as well as to be a good audience. Please help us set a good example by not visiting during the performances. We ask that all pagers and cell phones be turned off so as not to disturb the performances.

On-street parking will be available. Please do not block neighbor’s driveways or mailboxes.
